Как написал его издатель: "Forty years ago when Pound began writing epic poem, a poem containing history, he discovered that history without monetary economics is a dead study. Hence he is tireless concern since then with the history of money and its ramifications."

"A national or racial culture exists when the works (art, letters) of that nation do not and do not need to ask favours because they have been produced by a member of that particular nation or race" (p.3).

"Of the liberals (who are not always usurers) we would ask, Why are usurers always liberals?" (p.105)

"Liberalism and Bolshevism are in intimate agreement in their fundamental contempt for the human personality. Stalin "disposes" of forty truckloads of human "material" for work on a canal. We find the liberals talking about the export of "labour"" (p.106)

"A nation which does not respect its literature is uncivil and less it respects its literature the more quickly it rots. Literature at rock bottom is the right use of words.
A nation which is slack in distinguishing the meaning of words, and which tolerates the use of ambiguous phrase, rots.
A confusion between war and the military virtues is a very grave confusion. The military virtues are a possession so precious that it is almost worth a war to preserve them" (p.251)

Quite simply: I want a new civilization. We have the basis for a new poetry, and for a new music. The government of our country is hopelessly low-brow, there are certain crass stupidities in the administration that it is up to the literate members of the public to eradicate. Voila tout" (p. 222)

(Ezra Pound "Impact" /essays on ignorance and the decline of American civilization/).

Nell'aria pura, viveva il respiro
del nosro eterno amor
levigato dai limpidi ruscelli e dai fiumi
e camminavo con te
sulla terra sana
che germogliava tra i fiori
la guarigione per ogni tipo di crisi
fra un uomo e una donna
